Hobson's Choice (1954) is a comedy set in Victorian Salford, centered around Henry Hobson, a tyrannical widowed bootmaker who exploits his three daughters as cheap labor while indulging in drinking at the local pub. As the story unfolds, Hobson's control over his daughters is challenged, particularly by Maggie, the eldest, who seeks to assert her independence and ultimately takes charge of her own life and future. The film explores themes of family dynamics, social class, and personal empowerment.
