Louth Sketch

Opened on Boxing Day 1921, a conversion of a former Victorian chapel built in 1821. The Playhouse got its art-deco frontage a decade later in 1935 as well as stairs leading to a newly built balcony.

During the 1970’s and 1980’s the upstairs screen was used to show films and downstairs was used as a Bingo Hall.

Two further screens were added in 1996 when Parkway took over The Playhouse to make it a three screen cinema as it remains today.

After extensive refurbishment in 2011 and 2012, including the introduction of digital projection and new seats in some screens, capacities are currently 72, 140 and 150 seats.

In 2013, The Playhouse was awarded the “Pride of Place” in Louth for their contributions to the town.
