We at Parkway Cinemas are rather proud of our little cinema in Louth. This delightful Lincolnshire town has a population of less that 15,000 and the continuing success of the Playhouse is a testament to the support of the local cinemagoers.

Following conversion from a Victorian chapel, The Playhouse first opened its doors to the cinemagoing public in the 1920s.

Later in 1935, the golden age of cinema expansion, a new frontage in the "moderne" style of the period was added together with a splendid new staircase to the upper floors.

Parkway took ownership of the Playhouse in 1996 and it was decided to develop the cinema to a three screen operation. Great care was taken to preserve the architectural delights of the 1935 improvements, most particularly the front elevation of the building.

If you stand at the far side of the car park opposite the cinema you get a splendid view of the facade

and you can just see the top section of the original chapel.

Our programme policy at the Playhouse is to present the best of the current releases. We have also become a home for the Louth Film Club, which presents a regular programme for the discerning film fan.
